I was feeling kinda bored tonight, and was not in a mood to get back into the homework swing of things by reading the last 6 chapters of Jane Eyre. There have been a couple things in the news that have bugged me, ranging from a political rampage over a poor ladies suffering to a stupid mistake from a great person.
To start off in a lighter mood, I thought I’d say my opinion on the new breakfast sandwich over at Burger King. Personally, I haven’t been a big fan of fast food for a while, only eating there when getting out of the car to go eat at a restaurant isn’t the smartest idea for a family with a car sick 4 year old. Any ways, this new sandwich makes me sick with its 730 calories and 47 grams of fat. How could people put this into their systems, breakfast is the meal that you are meant to eat as a king but this is a little far from a royal meal. If you were expecting a taste test, then this isn’t the site for you, maybe this review will be helpful.
Next, I wanted to wait until Mrs. Terri Schiavo had died before posting my views on the matter. I did not want to add to the hotbed of political and the bloggers rage over the hotbed of the politicians creating another hotbed. I think the government should never have gotten involved in the case, it is a personal matter. Although, the huge media attention the case received is probably a good thing, people need to keep living wills, we need to make sure that in case something happens, we don’t become the topic of Jessi Jackson’s next political campaign. On the issue of her death, I’m inconclusive: On one hand, if I were in her state (or in the state that medical professionals say she is in) I wouldn’t want to live. But, on another hand, if my child or loved one was in this state, I would never pull out the feeding tube, it would be similar to me killing them.
Now on another bright note, the NCAA tournament, having gone through a pretty bad sports season last year in terms of collegiate and professional sports, hopefully this year will be a time of revival for Illinois. The fighting Illini have been a consistent team all year and they are one of the strongest teams in the final four. They don’t have a lot of talent, but they play great together as a team, and in my opinion, better team play wins over individual talent in most cases. I’m saying that the final game will be Illinois vs. Michigan State.
Lastly, a topic a bit closer to home, not my physical home but the home or the actual structure of this journal. Most of you probably haven’t heard of Wordpress or its amazing developer Matt Mullenweg. Matt has been the driving force behind WP, and has taken it from its shabby b2 roots to a top weblog platform, he has won multiple accolades for Wordpress and has captured the hearts of many Wordpress users. Before Wordpress’s landmark 1.5 release, Wordpress was on a dry spell and finances were getting low, in a turn to prepare the servers for a successful 1.5 release he signed up to host spam on the server. A couple days ago while he was on vacation the blogging world broke up a storm about the topic, and with Matt vacationing in Florence without access to a computer was bared from responding. Personally, I believe that we should leave him alone, he has admitted his mistake and has removed the spam. Everyone makes mistakes, it doesn’t mean that we should look down upon them forever because of it.

that breakfast sandwhich looks good, but it is pretty damn fatty… as for terri schiavo, i think it was the right thing to do. i mean, if your in a state like hers, there is almost no way you are ever going to recover, and if youre religious at all its better to die and go with the assumption of an afterlife, then to live in this world with no conscious mind… however, i think her husband is a jackass for telling her parents they cant have her buried near them in florida… as for the illini, IM not a big fan of basketball anymore, but IM still rooting for them… and to say they’ve got little talent is stupid… i dont care how good you play as a team, you arent going to win all but 1 game if your going with little talent… individual talent alone cant win, teamwork alone cant win, you need both to win consistently. finally, i have no idea who Matt Mullenweg is, but it does sound like people are being morons about that…
I agree with you about Terri Schiavo, I think the husband should just divorce her, even though the divorce isn’t in paper, its physically there, he has a girlfriend with kids.
About the talent, I was saying that they are one of the least “talent” based teams in the final four, they have talent, just no one that really shines. The other teams have 1 or 2 really good people with the rest being ok, Illini have a bunch of people that don’t really shine but they are consistently good.

I was determined to stay off the Terri Schiavo topic myself until I noticed that it seemed that only the miniority who thought the government should intervene seemed to be being heard. So I decided to post one entry on the subject and say what I had to say on it.

So I’ll comment on Matt’s situation. I don’t quite understand what he’s done, but it doesn’t seem like it’s spam, exactly. The articles had nothing to do with wordpress, but they had nothing to do with Nigerian pots of gold, either. I think we should all leave him alone. He’s a swell guy. He didn’t do this to cheat the system or gain absurd riches for himself. Leave him alone.
Spy : I bet that comment was from either a competing blog developer or some kid that wanted to act funny. The community understands that without Matt, Wordpress wouldn’t be far from the slow and messy B2 code.
Zoogie : I had some time and the matters of discussion were extensive. During recent days a couple posts about Asbestos started popping up. Basicly, it was wrong because he was using the large community driven PR that WP had to give those articles a high rank on search engines.

As for Jane Eyre, I finished it, personally my opinion of the book has gone from “uggh why do we have to read this”, “hmm this book really isn’t bad at all”. At the end, I liked the book, can’t call it a favorite but it’s good.
They shouldn’t make us read. Or at least, they shouldn’t make us psychoanalyze. They should be like, ‘here, read whatever book you want, write a journal entry on it’ once a month and let us read in our leisure, so they can use class time to teach important things that they don’t teach, like grammar.
Our Comm. Arts program is pretty good, atleast the enriched one, we learn a bit of grammar here and there but we analyze the book and this time around, it doesn’t kill book.
